Do Ba Quan, a representative from the project’s investor, the Tri Nam Group Joint Stock Company, said that on January 9, the firm started installing the first bicycle point on Dao Tan Street, Ba Dinh District.
Ba Dinh and Hoan Kiem districts have handed over the cleared land to the company to build 23 and 11 public bicycle-sharing service stations respectively.
The company has planned to arrange 300 bicycles for the pilot operation in the two districts during Tet.
The service will also be piloted in the districts of Tay Ho, Dong Da, Thanh Xuan and Hai Ba Trung in the coming time.
The company will distribute bicycles to the stations in Hoan Kiem and Ba Dinh districts on January 12-20.
From January 20, around 10 bicycles will be put into use at each station.
Hanoi authorities approved a proposal by the city’s Department of Transport that allowed Tri Nam Joint Stock Company to provide public bike service for a 12-month trial.
The company would provide 1,000 bikes for the project at 94 locations in the city with half being electric.
The firm will charge VND10,000 for a 30-minute trip on electric bikes and VND5,000 for the same duration on normal bicycles. Hire for a full day for a bike would be VND60,000 and an electric bike VND120,000.
