A Vietnamese-Korean bilingual book on late General Vo Nguyen Giap made its debut in Hanoi on May 25 before it will be introduced to readers in the Republic of Korea (RoK) afterwards.

The book, entitled “Dai tuong Vo Nguyen Giap trong long dan” (General Vo Nguyen Giap in people’s heart), is a work of photographer and journalist Tran Tuan. This is the first bilingual book to be introduced in the RoK.
In the future, more books on Vietnam will be introduced to Korean readers, including those on the Dien Bien Phu campaign and President Ho Chi Minh.
According to the author, the book is a collection of photos he took when he was with General Giap. The photos captured General Giap, the General’s moments with his comrades, people and family, as well as images of his funeral and moving moments when people across the country mourned the death of the beloved General of Vietnamese people.
Tran Tuan, who had worked for the Vietnam News Agency, has 45 years of experience in his career and 35 years taking photos of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
He has published three books on General Giap. He has also organized 10 photo exhibitions of the general in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Binh and many other localities across the country. All the photos were presented to the localities after the exhibitions.
General Vo Nguyen Giap, whose real name is Vo Giap (alias Van), was born in Loc Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, the central province of Quang Binh on August 25, 1911. He passed away in Hanoi on October 4, 2013 at the age of 103.
He once served as a Politburo member, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnamese People’s Army and a National Assembly deputy from the first to seventh tenures.
