VietNamNet Bridge – Defending champions Binh Dien Long An booked a spot in the semi-finals of the LienVietPostBank International Women’s Volleyball Tournament in the northern province of Bac Ninh on Wednesday.

The team beat China’s Shanghai after five tense sets in the last Group B match.

Long An played with energy in the first set but still lost to their rival 20-25. They fought back to win the second set 25-20.

Shanghai took the lead with a close score of 27-25 in the third set; however, they struggled to recover their energy and quickly lost the fourth set by a score of 15-25.

In the decisive final set, Long An triumphed 15-9.

North Korea also entered the semi-finals after beating hosts Kinh Bac – Bac Ninh 3-0.

With the support of the home fans, Kinh Bac took a lead of 10-6 in the first minutes of first set. However, through the strong play of Kim Hyon-ju and Jong Jin-sim, North Korea closed the gap and won 25-21.

The hosts lost their form and North Korea easily bested them in the next two sets.

North Korea will meet Fujian of China in the semi-finals, while Long An will face LienVietPostBank.

The final will take place on March 1. The winners will walk away with US$15,000.
