On July 23, 2024, the Standing Office on Human Rights, in collaboration with the Binh Duong Provincial Human Rights Steering Committee, organized a mid-year review of human rights work and a training session for the province.
Colonel Ngo Xuan Phu, Deputy Director of Provincial Police, speaking on behalf of the Head of the Human Rights Steering Committee, highlighted Binh Duong’s significant socio-economic achievements, including improved living standards for its residents.
In the first half of 2024, while the province maintained stability, challenges persisted, particularly in areas such as labor relations, land disputes, cybersecurity, and public order crimes.
Key achievements included:
Strategic Development: As a top province in industrial development, Binh Duong achieved a per capita income of VND 172 million per year, with its GRDP growing by 5.97% in 2023.
Job Creation: Rapid industrial expansion provided employment for approximately 1.6 million workers.
Improved Living Standards: Enhanced quality of life bolstered public trust in Party and State leadership.
However, the province faced challenges in:
Human Rights Advocacy: Limited depth in promoting awareness of human rights achievements.
Coordination: Irregular collaboration between Steering Committee members and local departments, impacting implementation effectiveness.
Major General Nguyen Van Ky, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office on Human Rights, emphasized the collective responsibility of political systems in protecting human rights. He urged local authorities to:
Proactively Advise: Develop and implement policies to safeguard and promote human rights.
Enhance Communication: Strengthen both domestic and international awareness of Vietnam’s human rights achievements.
Prevent Misuse: Monitor and counteract efforts exploiting human rights issues to undermine Party and State authority.
Resolve Labor Concerns: Address workers’ grievances promptly to prevent external manipulation and maintain social harmony.
Delegates explored two critical topics:
Workers’ Rights under New Free Trade Agreements: Highlighting Vietnam’s commitments to global labor standards.
Human Rights in the New Context: Adapting to emerging challenges in human rights protection.
The presentations provided actionable insights, enabling officials to better implement human rights initiatives at local levels.
In his closing remarks, Colonel Ngo Xuan Phu outlined Binh Duong’s plans to:
Economic and Social Development: Continue programs to reduce poverty and enhance living standards.
Promote Achievements: Increase awareness of human rights accomplishments across political, civil, economic, and cultural fields.
Counter Misinformation: Combat hostile narratives exploiting democracy and human rights issues.
Strengthen Accountability: Urge local departments to take greater responsibility for implementing effective human rights measures.
The conference laid a strong foundation for addressing existing challenges and driving significant progress in ensuring human rights in Binh Duong.
