The former V.League champions travelled to Yangon without some key players including striker Nguyen Tien Linh. They also had to adjust with acting coach Nguyen Thanh Son who replaced Tran Minh Chien following his sudden resignation.

Binh Duong set out to play for a draw, but secured victory thanks to goals from To Van Vu and Wander Luiz in the second half.

Hadipo Gustavo levelled for the hosts, but it was not enough.

Vu cam close in the 15th minute while David Htan of Shan United was unable to beat Binh Duong goalkeeper Tran Duc Cuong from 20m.

Vu made the difference five minutes after the interval to cut in from the left wing and find the back of the net.

The visitors had chances to increase the gap but Le Tan Tai and Luiz failed to beat Myo Min Latt.

From a counter-attack from the right wing ball, Gustavo was given a free header to nod home.

Luiz finally converted one of many chances in the 85th minute.

Binh Duong are in third position and maintain hopes of advancing to the next round. Shan United have failed to win in three matches.

Binh Duong will host Shan United at home in two weeks time at the Go Dau Stadium.

In the other match in the group, Filipino Ceres Negros defeated Persija Jakarta of Indonesia 1-0 with a goal from Bienvenido Maranon in the ninth minute.

Ceres Negros top the table with three wins, followed by Persija Jakarta with one win, one draw and one loss. They will meet again on April 23 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
