VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Health on May 14 officially released a report on the unknown skin disease in Bao To district of the central province of Quang Ngai.




According to the report, poor nutrition is the major reason causing the disease. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Minister of Health, said that up to 94 percent of blood samples revealing B3 vitamin deficiency. Most of patients who had high liver enzyme were in poor nutrition state and in blood deficiency.

Tests conducted by the Nagasaki University, Japan, show that the disease is not a communicable disease.

Experts confirmed to not find threats caused by virus or bacteria from tested samples of soil, water, or food.

Experts found out many kinds of mold and fungus, as well as aflatoxin in rice. Aflatoxin is an element that causes liver wounds and liver cancer.

The Ministry of Health’s press conference had the presence of representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Epidemic Control Agency.

The strange disease in Ba To was firstly reported in mid-April 2011, with 21 deaths so far.

The Ministry of Health has sent several missions to Ba To to investigate the disease but the main reason causing this disease is still unknown.
