Phuong Thanh and Dam Vinh Hung

One artist who has found himself in the middle of such a rumour is singer Dam Vinh Hung, who swore that he had never used black magic on anyone. Talking about a previous rumour from six years ago, in which Hung is said to have used black magic to cause singer Phuong Thanh to lose her voice and become ill, Hung said he was willing to face any of his accusers in order to clear up the rumours.

However, on April 25, Phuong Thanh made a post on her Facebook account in which she said she was sure Dam Vinh Hung and his mother used black magic against her. They had also had a confrontation at Grammy Cafe.

After word of Phuong Thanh's status spread on internet, designer Do Manh Cuong also confirmed that black magic is used among artists in one of his status updates.

Cuong even said that he had video clip as evidence. Previously, during one of Cuong's fashion shows, his favourite model, Le Thuy, suddenly became unsteady on her feet.

Le Thuy staggers on catwalk

She had to stop on the catwalk, but she was still wobbly and fainted back stage.

Many other artists have talked about similar experiences, blaming them on the dark arts. After having taken leave of the industry for a long time, singer Viet Quang returned with his own story on how he removed a curse. The method involved putting a boiled egg on his head. Afterwards, he said, when he broke it, the egg contained green stones, hair and a razor blade.

A veteran song-writer said that such stories are common in this industry. Some people believe in the stories while others remain doubtful. According to this song writer, Phuong Thanh probably had a vocal problem, model Le Thuy was most likely exhausted from walking too much on high heels but Quang's experiences may well have been the result of magic.

Other people think that such stories are just a PR ruse cooked up by artists.
