Update news blood shortage
The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has said it still needs about 10,000 units of blood for treatment and emergency cases during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday that is due to last for seven days.
Since January this year, over 1.2 million units of blood have been donated across the country at major voluntary blood donation campaigns and events such as Red Spring Festival, Red Sunday and National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on April 7.
Many hospitals and medical facilities in the Mekong Delta region are facing a shortage of blood for emergency and long-term treatment of patients.
As many as 1,000 blood units have been promptly transported by air by the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi to the blood bank of Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City.
Red Journey 2020 blood donation campaign will take place from June 6 to August 8 in 42 provinces and cities, said the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT).
The HCM City People’s Committee is calling for blood donation since hospitals face a severe shortage following the lengthy social distancing order.
