VietNamNet Bridge – More than 100 boat owners joined a training course on Wednesday to learn skills to cope with storms in southern Ca Mau Province's Tran Van Thoi District.
Participants were taught how to identify storms, how to find and secure shelter, first aid skills, and how to keep contact with the mainland in emergency situations.
An estimated 193 accidents have sunk 100 boats in territorial waters around the province in the last five years, killing 38 people, injuring 9 and leaving 52 missing.
* Ice production factory destroyed by landslide
An ice production factory in Binh Khanh Ward, southern Long Xuyen City was swept by a landslide into the Hau River on Thursday.
No loss of life was reported.
The 10-metre-long landslide damaged the factory's foundation which forced all the machinery inside to sink. Damages were estimated to reach billions of dong.
The city's Natural Resources and Environment Department inspected the area and warned surrounding houses about the potential for another landslide.
* Fatal rockslides claim lives of two women
At least two women reportedly died in a rock slide in Na Lung iron ore mine in northern Cao Bang Town's Chu Trinh District.
Victims Luong Thi Quy, 26, and Nham Thi Linh, 34, were buried in the rubble and have not been found.
A group of people were looking for iron ore at the time of the accident.
The local authority is searching for the bodies of the victims.
