A worker was killed when a boiler exploded in Phuoc Thai Commune in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Three workers were performing an electric welding task atop the 12-metre-high boiler on the premises of the Viet Nam Vedan Enterprise Corp, Ltd when the explosion occurred at 9.30am yesterday (July 23).

Eyewitnesses said the force of the blast threw a worker 20 metres up into the air before he fell to the ground. The 34-year-old died later of his injuries.

The two other workers were lucky to survive.

The case is under investigation. 

Mountain pass accident kills two people

Two people were killed and one was injured in an accident on the Mimosa mountain pass in Da Lat City in the Central Highland Lam Dong Province at 9.30pm yesterday.

There was a one-hour-long traffic jam on the mountain pass after the accident.

Initial investigation by the police showed a container slipped from a container truck, which was travelling to Da Lat-HCM City on the mountain pass, and fell on a lorry that was transporting rice.

The lorry driver Nguyen Huy Vu, 35, and his mother Le Thi Thu, 64, who was also owner of the rice cargo, were killed, while Vu's assistant driver was injured.
