The bomb was safely dug up and transported out of the residential area.

Construction workers had accidentally dug into the propeller section of the bomb, which was buried one metre below the ground and about two metres from Ngo Quyen Street in Ward 6 of Da Lat City.

Fortunately, the bomb did not explode, though it chipped a bit.

Upon discovering the bomb, the workers immediately stopped the construction and reported it to the authorities.

Authorities sealed off the surrounding area and did a complete sweep, but no other unexploded ordnance was found.

Specialists said the bomb was one metre in length, 40cm in diameter and weighed about 320kg.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Thanh Long, Commandant of Da Lat’s MSC, said it was a powerful bomb that could have done devastating damage to a 700-metre radius area if it had exploded.

The bomb was dug out and transported to Sub-area 115, Lat Commune, in Lac Duong District, about 20 km away from Da Lat City, to be detonated.

The bomb was put into a two-metre-deep hole and detonated using eight kg of explosives.
