VietNamNet Bridge – The Information and Communications Publishing House has debuted a book entitled “Vietnam’s Mark on the East Sea,” written by Dr Tran Cong Truc, former Head of the Government Border Committee.

The four-chapter book aims to communicate accurate information to the public and affirm the Party and State’s stance on disputes, as well as Vietnam’s determination to protect its sovereignty and other legitimate rights in the East Sea.
The first chapter of the book introduces the role Vietnam’s seas and islands play in its economy, national defence and security.
The second provides firm legal grounds for demarcating Vietnam’s seas and continental shelf, especially its exclusive economic zone, and affirming its sovereignty, rights and jurisdiction over its territorial waters, continental shelf, and exclusive economic zone in accordance with international conventions.
The third chapter describes the establishment and exercise of Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos during the Nguyen dynasty, which states that it has had sovereignty over the Hoang Sa islands since at least the 17th century. According to the book, this uninterrupted sovereignty is in accordance with international law and practices.
In the final chapter, the author points out the East Sea disputes and proposes solutions to the problem. The book's index also includes official documents related to Vietnam's seas and continental shelf, as well as other research on the East Sea.
* Photos capture Spratly Islands
Authorities in Khanh Hoa Province in south central region have received a photo collection on the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago donated by photographer Ngoc Son.
It includes 60 art photos printed on wood featuring the life of residents and soldiers on the offshore islands.
Son, born in 1955, a member of the Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists, displayed them in his home town in Bac Ninh Province in the north, earlier this year.
The collection is among a series of activities by the Bac Ninh Photographic Artists, who have taken pictures along the coast of Viet Nam from Bac Ninh southwards.
