This year’s event is themed “Books and 54 peoples” with the participation of 12 publishing houses and distributors nationwide with two book agencies based in Hanoi joining the exhibition for the first time.

The exhibition has an area displaying information and documents of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam with 223 book titles, cultural images, costumes, geographic names, and historical relics related to these groups, with photos of groups formed as 27 book models (each side features one ethnic group).

Another highlight is an area showcasing maps and documents related to the borders of Vietnam’s islands and seas depicted in 207 book titles. Visitors, especially the young, will have a chance to understand the origin, history of Vietnam’s ethnic groups as well as historical evidence affirming the sovereignty of the country.

There is also the latest photo display on life of soldiers and local people on Truong Sa Island District.

Apart from printed books, the book street will have an ebook area. An area for children’s books will feature 94 titles introducing rare and valuable books released since 1940 including the first edition of De men phieu luu ky (Diary of a Cricket) in 1942, and Nguoi tho ren (The Blacksmith) in 1942. Some were made from pasteboard and straw paper.

There are also mobile book displays as well as a special area for the blind.
