Bougainvillea flowers hit streets around Ho Chi Minh City
Along with apricots, peach blossoms, and kumquats, all of which are popular bonsai trees for Tet decorations, gardeners in Ho Chi Minh City are offering customers multicolour bougainvilleas at a price of up to hundreds of millions of VND.
Multicolour bougainvillea trees have gained huge popularity among Vietnamese customers for this year’s Tet festival.
According to Viet, the owner of a flower garden in Thanh Thai street of District 10, his garden is home to many varieties of bougainvillea in different sizes and shapes, each being sold at VND100 million.
The trees have high prices because they are imported from Thailand and then grown in Vietnam, Viet explained.
Each tree stands at over three metres high.
These trees have a lifespan of up to dozens of years, he stated.
The multicolour bougainvillea trees feature more than five flower colours in its foliage.
Viet said that customers only pay VND75 million per tree, so he cannot sell it yet.
Bougainvillea trees worth under VND50 million prove to be more popular among customers.
