VietNamNet Bridge – On his first day at school, Dinh Van K'Re, a H're ethnic boy, attracted the attention of pupils at Son Ba Primary School in Son Ha district’s Son Ba commune in in the central province of Quang Ngai.

K'Re, 6, is 50cm tall and weighs only 3.5 kg. Experts said that he suffers from Seckel syndrome, known as bird-headed dwarfism, a congenital nanosomic disorder. It is characterized by intrauterine growth retardation and postnatal dwarfism with a small head, narrow birdlike face with a beak-like nose, large eyes with downslanting palpebral fissures, receding mandible and intellectual disability.
On the morning of September 29, K'Re went to school for the first time, with his father. At first the tiny boy hid behind his father but he gradually got used to the new environment.
Mr. Dang Van Cuong, Headmaster of Son Ba Primary School, said he had to visit K’re’s family several times to persuade his parents to send the boy to school as the parents were afraid that the boy could not fit into the school community.

Cuong said though the boy’s handwriting strokes were still weak, he was able to learn the lessons very quickly. The school has asked K’re’s parents to let him be a boarder.
K’re’s elder brother Dinh Van Anh is now a third-grader at the same school.
Reportedly, K’re’s parents, Mr. Dinh Van An and Mrs. Dinh Thi Pia. are cousins. At birth K’Re weighed only 800gr and was 20cm in length.

The boy is only 50cm tall and 3.5kg in weight.
