VietNamNet Bridge - This morning, May 2, a 12-year-old student in the central province of Ha Tinh was struck dead by lightning amid the school yard.

 

The victim was taken home for funeral preparations.

The incident occurred at 7.15am at the Thach Hoi Junior Secondary School in Thach Ha District. The victim is identified as a school boy named Tran Van Cuong, a 6th grader.

According to the school’s principal, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai, at about 7.15am, all students were grouping up on the school yard for a meeting when there was thunderstorm. The meeting was cancelled and all students ran into their classrooms for hiding from the rain.

When a group of five children were running into their class, they were struck by lightning. All of them fell down to the ground.

Four of them got up to run into the classroom, except for schoolboy Tran Van Cuong.

The teachers gave Cuong first aid and called an ambulance but the child died a few minutes later.

The victim has been taken home for funeral preparations.

The boy is an orphan and his family is very poor.
