Rescue forces pulled the body of Thai Ly Hao Nam from mud at a depth of more than 25m underground at 01:20 on January 20, confirmed Doan Tan Buu, deputy head of the Dong Thap provincial administration.
Buu, who was present at the scene, said in a closed environment the decomposition process was slower than usual, so the boy’s body remained intact.
His body was taken home for reburial according to the family’s wish, Buu said.
He revealed that preliminary results of investigations and forensic examinations at the scene show the boy had died from multiple injuries when he collided with the hard wall of the concrete pillar and fell into the water environment.
The provincial government will soon ask relevant agencies to clarify the cause and handle violations, if any, added the official.
Thai Ly Hao Nam and some of his friends went to the construction site of Roc Sen bridge project on December 31, to hunt for scrap metals. Nam unfortunately fell into an empty concrete pillar 35m deep under the ground.
Rescue work was immediately deployed, and experts had changed rescue options several times until the body of the victim was retrieved on January 20.
