VietNamNet Bridge – A battery in the controller of a Chinese toy car exploded, injuring the right eye and fingers of an 11-year-old boy from the central province of Ninh Thuan.

Nguyen Chi Tu was admitted to the HCM City Eye Hospital on September 7 with a foreign body in the right eye. HIs cornea was torn. Due to the injury, his right eye could only distinguish light, not images.

The boy's hands were also seriously wounded so he was then transferred to HCM City Children's Hospital 1.

Doctors said the forefinger and middle finger on her left hand were cut off. On his right hand, the middle finger was seriously injured so doctors had to remove them.

After the wounded hands were treated at Children’s  Hospital, the boy was taken back to the HCM City Eye Hospital to heal his eye. An eye surgery to repair his lens will be performed in a few days but doctors said they could not predict the result.

The boy’s parents said the accident occurred when he was alone at home. The parents said they bought the toy car at a store in Ninh Thuan about two months ago.

When he was asked about the incident, Tu said: "I was playing with the toy car suddenly when the battery exploded". The authorities are investigating the case.
