The incident occurred at 4am on December 3 on the Vong Bridge on Highway 53 in Vinh Long city, Vinh Long province.

Local people said that they were awaken by the big sound from the bridge. When they approached the site, they saw the bridge was broken and fell into the river.

They opened the door and pulled the driver from the cabin. It is lucky that at the time of the accident, there was no other vehicle on the bridge.

The driver was identified as Nguyen Thanh Khoa, 32, a native of Lam Dong province, and an employee of the HCM City-based Tan Phat Dat Transport Company.

Khoa said that the vehicle was on its way from HCM City to Tra Vinh. Without a special license for circulation, it had to travel at night to avoid the police.

Knowing that the bridge is only designed for vehicles up to 30 tons, the driver still tried to cross the bridge. Consequently, the bridge collapsed and half of the truck fell into the river.
