Brunei police have arrested a fishing vessel from central Binh Dinh province with nine fishermen on board due to fishing in its waters, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei.
Immediately after the incident, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry asked the embassy and relevant agencies to define the circumstances and take necessary measures to protect the crew.
The embassy said that the fishermen are in good health and are at Bandar police station.
The Foreign Ministry has sent a diplomatic note to the Brunei Embassy in Hanoi to ask Brunei to solve the case and promptly free the nine Vietnamese fishermen and their ship.
In related news, Ngo Van Sy, one of the Vietnamese crewmen who escaped from the blazing fishing vessel Jeong Woo 2 of the Republic of Korea south of New Zealand on January 11, was discharged from hospital in New Zealand on January 31 and is on his way home.
Sy was scheduled to arrive at Noi Bai International Airport on February 1, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand.
The embassy said it will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to help the other injured crewman, Tran Van Ngoan, who remains in hospital, return home as soon as possible.
