VietNamNet Bridge - Seven years after being recognized as a national record of Vietnam, the Maitreya Buddha statue on the Cam (Forbidden) Mountain in the southern province of An Giang has been recognized as a record of Asia.

The statue of more than 33 m high on the Forbidden Mountain in An Hao Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province was completed in late 2005.

The plinth area is of 27x27 m. The total weight of the statue and the plinth is nearly 1,700 tons. The plinth is made by rock and glass, meaning a diamond block. Visitors who stand in any position on the Forbidden Mountain can also see the Maitreya Buddha statue in bright white color, sitting in the vast space of green space with a gentle smile.

In early 2006, the statue was recognized as a national record of Vietnam.

The ceremony recognizing the Maitreya Buddha statue as a record of Asia will be held at 9 am on May 29.

Forbidden Mountain is the most beautiful mountain ranges in the range of That Son, about 90km from Long Xuyen city. Besides the ideal natural environment, the Forbidden Mountain is also known by many beautiful landscapes.
