VietNamNet Bridge – Senior painter Bui Quang Ngoc will display 32 oil paintings, including portraits of famous people and nude paintings at an exhibition at 43 Trang Tien, Hanoi from December 16.

 

The 76-year-old artist will introduce the portraits of his famous friends, like composer Van Cao, painter Luu Cong Nhan, philosopher Tran Duc Thao, composer Trinh Cong Son, poet Huu Loan and his own portraits.

 

Ngoc said he couldn’t portray a person who he had never met before and who he didn’t understand. He has lived with these people, talked to them and made hundreds of sketches to have dozens of complete portraits.

 

He begain painting portraits of his famous friends in Vietnam, in the 1970s.

 

Besides portraits, the exhibition, which opens today, on December 16, displays some nude paintings of unknown people.

 

According to Ngoc, nude paintings show outside moves while portraits show inside moves.

 

This is the painter’s third exhibition in Hanoi. The two other exhibitions were held in 1996 and 2003.

 

Ngoc was born in1934 in the central province of Quang Binh. He graduated from the Vietnam Art University and is a member of the Vietnam Art Association.

 

From 1956 through 2009, he participated in 16 big exhibitions in Vietnam and other countries.
