Authorities in District 1 in HCM City have proposed to expand and lengthen the opening time of the Bui Vien Pedestrian Street.
Under the proposal sent the municipal departments of tourism, transport, culture and sports and police, the expansion of the street space is aimed to ease overcrowding and provide more areas for parking plots, particularly during festivals or holidays.
District 1 authorities have also recommended opening the street on Friday evening as well, instead of just from Saturday to Sunday evening at present.
A District 1 People’s Committee survey indicated that most local people agreed with the street expansion as well as raising its operation time.
Bui Vien Street is estimated to welcome 600- 800 visitors and the figure even reaches up to more than 1,000 on holidays.
The 1.4-kilometre street was pedestrianised on August 2, 2017.
