However, more and more tourists coming to the island in the recent time has made increasing burdens on the locality.

Con Dao, located 180km from the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, is accessible by air and boat. Thanks to more convenient, the island has witnessed a strong rise in tourist arrivals in the recent time.

In 2018, Con Dao welcomed more than 286,000 visitors, an increase of 17.3 percent compared over the previous year.

At present, each day the 9,000 population island welcomes some 2,000 visitors, even up to 4,000 during Tet holidays. The robust growth has made pressure on the island’s development.

In the context where the eco environment and landscape may be harmed due to the overload, local authorities have proposed solutions including the suspension of licensing more express boats to Con Dao and the island expansion.

Con Dao is estimated to greet about 300,000 tourists by 2030. But with this rocket rise as now, the number of tourists to the island this year is possible to exceed the figure.-VNA
