VietNamNet Bridge – A man in the central province of Binh Thuan was killed on Monday when a landmine in the field he was farming exploded.

The explosion occurred at 3:40pm, in a cassava field in the town of Duc Tai, in Duc Linh District. The victim, whose name was not given, was a man of about 40, and lived in the town market.

According to witnesses, the man had collected dried grass and rubbish in the cassava field to burn, in preparation for a new crop. As he was preparing to leave the field on his bicycle, the explosion occurred. He fell on the spot, his body riddled with shrapnel.

An ambulance of the Hospital of Binh Thuan Nam was immediately dispatched, but the victim died on the way to the hospital from excessive blood loss.

At the scene, near the town stadium and a high school, was a large bomb crater and much blood. The police blocked the area for investigation.
