“The male driver who also beat the passenger, Hien’s husband Phan Van Linh, did not appear,” said Duong.

At 3pm on Tuesday, Ha Tinh Province Police seized the bus, numbered 38B-011.16, when it stopped illegally on Xuan Dieu Street to pick up passengers.

Linh could not present requested legal documents, including a driving licence.

On Monday afternoon, Vo Thi Hoai rode the bus from Ha Tinh. Because the driver was driving dangerously and shouting at passengers, she asked to get off.

Thinking the bus was operated by Ha Tinh Bus Transportation Company, Hoai took a photo of it, intending to report the driver to the company’s hotline.

Seeing her take the photo, the driver and the attendant jumped off the bus and beat her. Several bystanders did not dare intervene for fear of being attacked.

Lieutenant Colonel Vo Con Son, head of Cam Xuyen District Traffic Police, told Tuổi trẻ (Youth) newspaper the bus driver had been fined several times before running traffic lights, not having vehicle registration and stopping illegally.

“Last year, the bus driver was fined and had his licence seized for running a red light,” he said.
