Bustling city street gearing up for coming Tet holiday
With the Lunar New Year Festival, known locally as Tet, three weeks away, plenty of shops on Hai Thuong Lan Ong street in Ho Chi Minh City have been covered in red, with a diverse range of decorations now available for sale.
Decorative items for the upcoming Lunar Year of the Dragon are among the most popular on sale this year.
The 500-metre long street offers plenty of peach and apricot flowers made of cloth and plastics to be used for decoration.
A range of colourful stickers conveying wishes of luck and prosperity in the Lunar New Year can be seen throughout the area.
Envelopes are among much sought after items as they are used to give children lucky money during the Tet holiday. A package containing 10 envelopes only costs between VND10,000 to VND15,000.
This year has seen Vietnamese handcraft products dominate the market for Tet decorations.
The red colour is suitable for the cozy atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday, as it is said to bring about prosperity, fortune and strength.
The street is expected to receive a high influx of shoppers as the Tet holiday draws near.
This Tet holiday, employees will have seven days off work, starting on February 8.
