VietNamNet BridgeCa Mau Province party committee member and government official faces disciplinary action from the party’s central secretariat for borrowing indiscriminately and failing to repay her debtors.

The provincial party committee has no authority to act against Nguyen Thi Kim Lien since she is herself a member, Duong Thanh Binh, secretary of the committee, told newswire VnExpress yesterday, June 15.

It has therefore reported to the Central Committee’s Organization Commission, which will recommend action to be taken by the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee.

Last month, the Ca Mau Province Department of Education and Training, of which she is deputy head, received complaints from several people that they lent Lien money and she has not repaid them.

Among them are Nguyen Thanh Viet of Dam Doi District, who lent VND84 million ($4,100) last August, and Nguyen Thi Be Sau of Ca Mau city, who gave her 3.4 taels of gold worth $6,100.

Lien also failed to pay installments for a house worth VND300 million (US$14,500) she bought from a property company last year.

8 members vote for expulsion

A few days ago the provincial party committee’s executive committee asked members to recommend action against Lien.

Thai Van Long, director of Ca Mau Province Education and Training Department, says the agency has received many complaints about Lien's failure to repay her debts.

Forty four out of 52 people voted for the party to warn her and dismiss her from the party committee and her job.

The remaining eight wanted Lien to be expelled straightaway from the party.

The result of the vote has also been sent to the central party committee for reference.

On May 27 Party Cell 1 of her department’s party unit met to discuss her wrongdoings – failing to repay large debts, staying out of office for days without permission, and dropping out of the school where she was studying a political course.

Lien admitted to all the offences, explaining that she had borrowed money because she needed to repay a debt incurred 10 years ago after buying some property.
