Cafes in the middle of the rice fields

Cafes located in the middle of immense rice fields are becoming hot tourist destinations.

Old Brickyard

This café has been a favorite destination for young travelers for two years. It is located in Duy Xuyen Town, Quang Nam, which is not far from Hoi An.

“This rice paddy was originally the place where I tried to grow purple rice seeds in the organic way. Near my field, there is an abandoned ancient brickyard. I decided to buy it when people planned to destroy the building,” Ms. Thanh Nga, the owner of the café, said.

After purchasing the old brickyard, Ms. Nga redecorated it and built a beautiful small bamboo bridge so that visitors could enjoy the view around the rice field.

At the beginning of 2020, Ms. Nga opened another café and a store which sells crops. The unique, relaxing atmosphere of the places continues to attract more travelers’ attention. In April, rice paddies gradually turn yellow. It is recommended that visitors go to Hoi An at this time of year because of the cool weather.

Currently, the owner plants organic crops to collect ingredients for her drinks. Camping in the middle of the rice paddy is allowed and bungalows have been built for tourists to rest. When they come, they can try to help grow crops, produce roasted rice tea, and process purple rice into different dishes.

In 2022, Ms. Nga is planning to collaborate with farmers in the neighborhood to increase the size of rice fields and hold fairs to attract more visitors.

The café opens from 4.30am to 10pm. Tourists should visit this place during sunset or sunrise.

Chic Chillmax

Chic Chillmax, a café with the view of rice paddy, opened on January 1. After two months, this destination has become a must-go café to young travelers. The café has around 1200 customers on average per day.

The café’s area is 3000 square meters. However, gardens and the grass take up most of the area. Around the building, there is a vast rice field. The place was designed according to traditional wood houses of Quang Nam residents. Big old jars, old doors, old tables, and old chairs were used to decorate the café.

Tourists should visit the café during the winter-spring rice harvest (from January to April) or the summer-autumn rice harvest (from May to August). “We do not use fertilizers, or chemical substances to guarantee crops’ safety as well as the atmosphere of the place. In the near future, we will invite visitors to plow, harrow, and harvest with farmers in the area,” the manager of the café said.
