VietNamNet Bridge – Northern Hai Phong City's Thuy Nguyen District People's Committee has suspended the operation of a calcium carbide factory in Lai Xuan Commune due to alleged pollution that has harmed the health of local residents.

The district People's Committee chairman Nguyen Tran Lanh said the district would inspect the factory.

Since January 11, residents from three communes of Lai Xuan, Ky Son and Lien Khe have gathered outside the factory to prevent material entering.
