Can Gio Mangrove Forest in Ho Chi Minh City has been cited among the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations or The World’s Greenest Holiday Destinations.
The Top 100 is an initiative of TravelMole.com, Vision on Sustainable Tourism, Totem Tourism and Green Destinations, all global players in the promotion of tourism sustainability and in informing professional stakeholders in the sector, as well as the media.
The list is the result of open calls in the social media, followed by a selection by 30 international tourism sustainability experts.
Dr. Albert Salman from Green Destinations said no destination is sustainable for the full 100%. “Our first listing of the global top 100 destinations is intended to reflect and acclaim their progress and work towards a sustainable future, rather than imply total perfection.”
Salman also stressed that "Carbon emission of travel has not been calculated by us. This is what we want to add next year. We recommend travellers to compensate their carbon emission".
Can Gio was recognised by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve in Vietnam in 2000. Two years later, the primeval mangrove forest received the Quality Coast Nature award.
