VietNamNet Bridge – After the anchor wires of two barges were broken, the barges drifted uncontrollably and crashed into 44 houses along the Cai San River in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

The incident was reported at noon on June 18 in Vinh Trinh commune of Vinh Thanh district.
According to the local authorities, nine houses were completely collapsed in the accident while 35 others were damaged, with a lot of furniture falling into the river.
According to authorities, the accident was cause by two barges which drifted freely after their anchor wires were broken by another sand barge running at high speed.
Most of the houses are low quality so the damage is estimated at only VND1 billion ($50,000). Fortunately, there are no casualties.
Can Tho police are investigating the incident.
