Dung was elected as the new chair of Can Tho at a session of the Can Tho City People's Council on February 8. Previously, he was the Vice Chair of Can Tho City.

Also at the meeting, Mr. Le Van Tam - Head of the Internal Affairs Department of the Can Tho City Party Committee - was elected deputy chair.

Mr. Le Hung Dung, 57, a native of Phong Thanh Tay commune, Gia Rai district of the southern province of Bac Lieu, is a doctor. He was awarded the title People's Doctor.

Mr. Le Van Tam, 56, a native of An Thoi ward, O Mon district of Can Tho city holds a bachelor of law.
