VietNamNet Bridge – On the morning of April 14, while cycling for fitness, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Chairman of the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho – had a stroke and fell down to the road. The same day, he was taken to the Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City for emergency by a helicopter.

Mr. Truong Hong Du, Deputy Chief the Can Tho City People's Committee Office and the committee’s spokesman said on the morning of April 14, Son had ridden for morning exercise for about 4 km when he was shocked into a daze and fell down to the road, in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho City.

Local people took Son to the Can Tho Hospital when he was in coma.
    
At 10 am the same day, a group of doctors of the HCM City-based Cho Ray Hospital were in Can Tho to conduct a surgery. At 2pm, the official was transported to Cho Ray Hospital by helicopter.

According to doctors, the health of Can Tho’s Chairman is getting worse. He is now in deep coma.

Mr. Du said Son has been a hypertensive patient for a long time.

Son was born in 1957 in Giong Rieng district, Kien Giang province. He was appointed as Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee in early 2011.
