The Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) yesterday decided to suspend midfielder Tran Chi Cong of Can Tho for three matches as punishment for trampling on midfielder Truong Van Thai Quy of Ha Noi FC in the round 11 match of the national premier league last Friday.

Along with the suspension, Cong was also fined VND20 million (US$870).

Last season, Cong was also suspended for five matches due to poor conduct towards referee Duy Lan.

Con has competed as part of the national team seven times.

The team brought home 21 gold, 17 silver and seven bronze. Thanh Hoa and the military team were the runners-up.

Hosts Dong Nai won three silver and four bronze. The silver medals went to Ly Duy Phuc in shot-put, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Ngan in high jump and To Thi Truc Mai in long jump.

The tournament attracted the participation of 850 athletes from 58 teams across the country.

According to Nguyen Trung Hinh, vice chairman of the Viet Nam Athletics Federation, the event’s best athletes will be selected to the national team to prepare for the Southeast Asian junior tournament.
