Themed “Love and Peace in the Southern Land”, the event will introduce traditional cakes made from rice, sticky rice and powdered variations and different types of vegetables and fresh fruits of the south.
The festival will feature 50 stalls of 200 different cakes originating from southern provinces and cooked by local artisans.
Visitors can sample Vietnamese cakes such as banh u (small glutinous pyramid shape cake), banh bo dua (coconut-flavoured sponge cake) and banh duc (rice cake cooked with lime juice).
More than 80 stalls will feature regional specialties and handicrafts, and 50 stalls will introduce special dishes of other countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
Many traditional music and song performances and folk dances staged by artists from professional art troupes and amateur art clubs in the region will also be featured.
Le Van Tam, deputy chairman of the province’s People’s Committee, said the festival would help introduce the south’s traditional culture and lifestyle to domestic and foreign visitors.
It will also help local authorities seek new opportunities and improve tourist services.
Last year, the festival attracted more than 180,000 visitors.
