VietNamNet Bridge – Canadian violinist Véronique Mathieu will show up at an “Enlightenment & Romanticism” concert which Saigon Classic Music Group will hold at the Southern Women’s Museum in District 3, HCMC at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

In the first part of the show, guitarist Le Ngoc Nien and pianist Doan Tran Thuy Tien will perform two pieces, Prelude BWV. 1006 by Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Schubert’s Impromptu Op. 90 No. 2.

Soprano Nguyen Thi Thanh Nguyen and piano accompanist Nguyen My Linh will then perform Mozart’s “Batti, batti, o bel Masetto” from Don Giovanni, K. 527 and “Un moto di gioia” from Le Nozze Di Figaro, K. 492 while baritone Vu Minh Tri and piano accompanist Le Hoa Phong Lan will play another piece by Mozart, “Non più andrai” from Le Nozze Di Figaro, K. 492, and Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “O del mio dolce ardor” from Paride ed Elena, Wq. 39.

Guitarist Tran Quang Huy and the guitar trio comprising Hoang Kieu Anh, Le Ngoc Nien and Tran Quang Huy will respectively perform Manuel M. Ponce’s Sonatina Meridional and Arcangelo Corelli’s Trio Sonata, Op. 3, No. 10.

The second part will feature performances by violinist Véronique Mathieu and pianist Le Hoa Phong Lan via Camille Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and rondo capriccioso, Op. 28 for violin and piano and Nathan Milstein’s Paganiniana for solo violin.

Pianists Nguyen Ngoc Bao Minh and Nguyen Lu Hiep will wrap up the show by playing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28, IV. Rondo and Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1 in F Minor and Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 31.

Violinist Véronique Mathieu has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South Africa, South America, and the U.S. She is a prize winner of the 2012 Eckhardt-Gramatté Contemporary Music Competition, the 2010 Krakow International Contemporary Music Competition, and the Canada Council Bank of Instruments Competition. As a member of Trio Micheletti, she won the Grand Prize of the 2009 Competition in the Performance of Music from Latin America and Spain. Mathieu is currently an assistant professor of violin at the University of Kansas, a visiting teacher at the Toronto School for Strings, and was previously on faculty at the State University of New York in Buffalo.

Due to limited seats, spectators are advised to register in advance via info@saigonclassical.vn. The organizer calls for a minimum donation of VND50,000 to help maintain their operations.

The Southern Women’s Museum is located at 202 Vo Thi Sau Street in HCMC’s District 3.
