VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese canoeists have left for Jakarta in the hunt for gold medals at the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The 19-member team will take part in 15 disciplines, targeting two or three gold medals.

In preparation for the Games, the team competed at the ASEAN Canoeing Championships in June, where they won three gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes. Tran Van Long won two gold medals in the men's singles canoe 1,000m and 200m while Tran Thanh Quang took gold in the men's singles kayaking 200m.

Leading Vietnamese canoeists also took part in recent Asian and world events, where they managed to make it to the final.

Long is expected to bring home the first gold medal from the Indonesian Games in his favourite event, the men's singles canoe 1,000m.

The event will run from Thursday to Sunday at Lake Cipule in Jawa Barat.
