VietNamNet Bridge – Going around a subterranean rock bank to the east of Hon Tre Island in Nha Trang Bay, a cargo ship pierced to its hull and cargo box. Nearly 1000 tons of fertilizer were dissolved into the sea on December 29.

The ship, named Truong Giang 54, carried 12 tons of diesel oil and 2000 tons of fertilizer was en route from the southern province of Dong Nai to the northern port city of Hai Phong.

Though the ship had a big hole on its hull, it could still float. Nha Trang port authorities sent two ships to assist the cargo vessel.

However, the two assistant ships couldn’t pull the cargo ship to Nha Trang port so goods were unloaded from the cargo ship to keep it afloat.

By January 2, more than 400 tons of fertilizer and 11 tons of diesel oil were transported to Nha Trang port.

Rescue workers are still doing their job to save the ship.

However, local authorities are worrying about harmful effects caused by nearly 1000 fertilizer that were dissolved into the sea.
