The HTV Awards, launched by HTV and Dong Tay Promotions in 2006, honour performers who have contributed to the channel's development during the year in TV, music and theatre.
Tuong, 23, is well-known for her music videos. She has done covers and composed original songs, mostly R&B and alternative rock.
"In writing music I aim to transfer my thoughts, love and emotion to audiences," she said after winning the award on Saturday night.
In 2013 she was the Voice of Viet Nam runner-up. A year later, she won the Cong Hien (Devotion) Award for Promising Artist given by The Thao & Van Hoa (Sports and Culture) newspaper.
Noo Phuoc Thinh and Dong Nhi were named Favourite Male Singer and Favourite Female Singer, respectively.
Last year, the 26-year-old Thinh spent VND500 million (US$25,000) to make a music video called Gat Di Nuoc Mat (Drying Tears) about a heartbreaking relationship. Despite being released a few months ago, the video is still on the top of the charts.
Nhi, also 26, changed her music style and image from sweet pop songstress to sexy dance performer wither her music video Bad Boy released in 2014. The song helped her win over young audiences.
This year, for the first time, HTV gave an award to a model. The winner, Thanh Hang, got 95.18 per cent of the public's votes.
"The award is my motivation to keep moving in my career," said Hang, who started working in the fashion industry in 2002.
Cai luong (reform opera) actress Phuong Loan, who has been performing for more than 20 years, won her second consecutive Favourite Cai Luong Artist award.
