On February 27, the Hanoi Theater Association held a seminar with the theme of artists' public behavior to find solutions to build a better image of artists.

Artist Bui Thanh Tram said the market economy, international integration, and the multi-dimensional characteristic of the fourth Industrial Revolution offers more favorable conditions to artists but also poses  challenges to their position, fame and prestige before the public.

“On the path of development, some artists show signs of political ideological vacillation, behavior deviations in communications and a lack of standards in lifestyle,” Tram said.

Nguyen Hieu, a writer, said that artists are the people of the public and the idols of many young people. Their movements, words, and voice in arts and daily life all catch the public's attention.

Artists are assessed and followed by the public, and their behavior in life affects the public in both positive and negative ways.

People’s Artist Hoang Dung, a beloved artist, is called by the public ‘bo Phan Quan’ (father Phan Quan) (Quan is his role in Nguoi phan xu (Judge) drama series). People sometimes quote his comments made in the drama.

People’s Artist Minh Hoa says the clothes she wore in a drama are imitated by many people. So artists always try to appear before the public in the best possible image.

Hieu said he is sad that many artists behave in a way that lacks standards, causing a negative impact on audiences and adversely affecting the image of artists.

Regarding artists’ behavior related to false advertising,  Ngoc, a respected critic, said this infringes on the artists’ responsibility toward the community.

The artists take advantage of people’s confidence and sympathy to give false information.

In these cases, they are irresponsible and seek profits while causing serious consequences including harming people’s physical and mental health, beliefs and money. The artists seriously violate personal and professional ethics.

Ngoc said there should be stricter sanctions on violations, so that artists become more responsible for their behavior.

Meanwhile, Duong Minh Giang, a director, said the word artist is respected, and they should try to protect artistic achievements.

Discussing solutions to improve artists’ social responsibility, People’s Artist Tran Quoc Chiem said artists need to be aware of the mission to cultivate and practice morality.

Some people have also called for heavier sanctions on violators.
