VietNamNet Bridge – As of January, 1, 2012, Viet Nam had around 342,000 enterprises, a 2.7 time rise against 2007, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO)’s census on economic and administrative units in the 2007-2012 period.

Of the figure, 313,000 are operating, according to Director General Le Quang Manh of the Investment Agency of Business Registration under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The 342,000 enterprises employed around 10.9 million laborers, including 10.77 million working for the businesses which are operating, up 65% (equivalent to 4.3 million) against 6.6 million in 2007.

By the end of 2012, the country had around 475,000 enterprises, including 70,000 newly-established ones and a large number of others which are preparing to come into operation or wait for technological transfer.

As of July 1, 2012, Viet Nam had about 5 million economic units, accounting for 96.5% of the total economic and administrative units, up around 28.5% against 2007 and expanding 5% annually since then.

By the day, the GSO estimated 4.6 million individual economic units, which recruited 7.8 million workers.

The number of administrative units jumped 1.2% annually while public service delivery units increased by 10.2% in number and 22.9% in laborers.

The surge in public service delivery units like education and healthcare reflected the realization of the State policies, said GSO General Director Do Thuc.

Specifically, the healthcare sector had 90.800 units, up 35.4% against 2007 and the education sector around 298,000 units, up 23.8% against the same period.
