VietNamNet Bridge – The rainfall in provinces in central Vietnam reached several hundreds of millimeters in the last several days, causing heavy floods, which killed at least 19 and isolated hundreds of thousands of people.

Phu Yen Province reported the worst toll with nine deaths, followed by Thua Thien Hue with four, Quang Nam with four and Quang Ngai with two.

On Tuesday flood waters rose dramatically in the rivers from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, causing flooding in lowlands and landslides in mountainous areas.

In Thua Thien-Hue Province, flood waters released from a hydroelectric plant inundated houses and fields, leaving several communes deeply submerged and isolated.

Landslides also occurred in several mountainous districts of Quang Nam Province, while rising waters on Thu Bon River submerged most villages along the river.

Floods inundated the National Highway 1A in Quang Ngai Province, forcing local authorities to ban all vehicles from traveling along the flooded sites.

In related news, the Huong Lien Commune People’s Committee in Ha Tinh Province on Tuesday asked the management board of Ho Ho Hydroelectric Plant to pay for damages caused by the plant’s released flood waters.

The committee said it was “irresponsible” to release such a huge quantity of water on Nov 3, killing three people and leaving hundreds of meters of road and dozens of bridges washed away. The flood waters also eroded 120 hectares of agriculture land, it added.
