VietNamNet Bridge – Three provinces in central Vietnam – Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai – have prepared equipment and personnel to cope with an oil spill after a Chinese oil tanker was sunken near Vietnam’s Ly Son Island in early November.
The ship, named Jian Mao 9, was sunken 72 nautical miles from Quang Nam’s Ly Son Island on November 9.
The ship was sunken on the way from Malaysia to China. It carried 80 tons of FO, 20 tons of DO and 200 liters of LO oil.
Le My Lien, Quang Ngai’s Director of Natural Resources and Environment Department, said local agencies have kept an eye on the ship and prepared equipment and personnel to deal with a possible oil spill.
Quang Nam and Da Nang have been also prepared for this.
Methods to remedy an oil spill include chemical, biological and mechanical measures.
