This was a surprise as Huawei is a newcomer. According to IDC’s (International Data Corporation) report, the top 6 brands in the smartwatch market in Q2 were Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Amazfit and Garmin.
Watch GT3, Watch Fit 2 and Band 7 were the most popular models, priced between VND2 million and nearly VND5 million.
Vietnam also sells Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi’s smartwatch products. However, the top 3 brands' ranking often depends on the launch of new models and promotion programs.
With new products launched in September and October, Apple is likely to increase its market share for smartphones, tablets and smartwatches.
Huawei is trying to maintain its position. It plans to introduce GT3 SE, a lower version of GT3, with a lighter design, longer battery life and a price at around VND4 million.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi launched the Smart Brand Pro 7 series in early October to prepare for the year-end season.
Analysts predict that the competition in the smartwatch market will be stiffer in H2/2022 as the shopping season is nearing. In addition to familiar brands, Oppo, Vivo and others have joined the market.
Realme in early August began selling Realme Watch 3, an upgraded version of Realme Watch 2. It has a youthful design, interesting workout mode and larger battery and affordable price, just VND2 million.
Garmin in September marketed two models Venu Sq 2 and Venu Sq 2 – music version.
In the global market, IDC’s report showed that Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei were the leading brands. The US brand left its rivals far behind.
Unlike the boom seen in Q4/2021, growth of the world smartwatch market is slowing down.
According to IDC, the global smartwatch output dropped by 6.9 percent year on year, to 107.4 million products. Demand is weaker because of high inflation, worries about economic recession and higher spending on non-technology products.
