The plan was included in a working session among Garuda Indonesia, a national flag carrier airline, Citilink Indonesia and representatives of Da Nang City’s People’s Committee in Indonesia.

At the meeting, Da Nang urged the two airlines from Indonesia to open direct flights as part of the city’s tourism promotion programmes.

Da Nang International Airport welcomed 3.1 million international passengers – a 31% growth – in the first half of 2024.

The port authority said it had signed with 35 international airlines for international flights to Da Nang Airport.

According to Da Nang International Terminal Company (AHT), Da Nang Airport currently hosts 16 international routes including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Macao, Hong Kong (China), Cambodia, the Republic of Korea and Japan with an average of 50 flights per day.

Da Nang International Airport is designed to handle 28 million passengers and 200,000 tonnes of cargo by 2030.

The construction of a new cargo terminal at the airport would begin later this year for soon operational in the third quarter of 2025.
