Chefs from 12 countries will compete at the international Cao Lau (a Vietnamese dish made with noodles, pork, and greens) cooking challenge in Hoi An on June 12-14.
A restaurant in Tran Phu Street in the old quarter of Hoi An offers Cao Lau and other food.
The event’s organiser said 12 chefs from different countries with work experience at Vietnamese hotels and restaurants will cook the dish at the An Hội Sculpture Park on the Hoài River bank.
The organising committee hoped the contest would promote Cao Lầu, Hội An’s signature dish, to the world.
The contest was organised in conjunction with the Hội An International Food Festival in March.
The 12 chefs must submit their recipes and ingredients list to prepare their own versions of Cau Lầu to demonstrate their skills and innovation.
Chefs will also be joined Trịnh Diễm Vy, chairwoman of the festival, to cook some of Việt Nam’s specialties and create a large version of Cao Lầu in the main arena.
A local chef, Trần Tấn Mẫn said Cao Lầu is a must eat in Hội An, and tourists can find Cao Lầu at restaurants across Hội An.
The contest is part of the 6th Quảng Nam Heritage Festival on June 9-14.
