VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese players will fly to the Philippines on May 17 to take part in the Asian Chess Championships.
The tournament will open one day later in the presence of President of Asian Chess Federation Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan.
Vietnam’s men team consists of six members: Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Nguyen Van Huy and Tran Tuan Minh.
The women team includes Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Nguyen Thi Nhu Y, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Le Thanh Tu.
Athletes will compete in men and women singles in the 9-round Swiss format.
This is the fourth time the Philippines has hosted the championships. Last year, Asian championship title went to India grandmaster Parimarjan Negi.
After the 2013 tournament, five best men players and one best woman player will earn tickets to compete in World Cup due to take place later this year.
Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Nguyen Thi Thanh An from Vietnam qualified for the World Cup thanks to their championship titles at a Zone 3.3 chess tournament early this year.
