On October 27, 11 young Vietnamese chess players successfully beat their foreign rivals in the third round at the World Youth Chess Championship in Halkidiki, Greece.
Meanwhile, Tran Tuan Minh, Tran Phan Bao Khanh, and Thai Ngoc Tuong Minh produced tactical performances, forcing their opponents to share points.
Nguyen Thu An, Nguyen Le Cam Hien, Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien, and Tran Minh Thang failed in their bid to move on to the fourth round.
The chess tournament runs through November 5.
Tinh switches to Can Tho
Midfielder Nguyen Quang Tinh has agreed a three-year contract with V.League 1 side Can Tho after a long career at his home club Song Lam Nghe An.
Tinh, who was captain at his former club, will earn about VND5.1 billion (US$227,000) during the course of his contract, a high figure for a player who has only played a single minute for the national team.
Song Lam Nghe An were eager to renew his contract with club record offer of VND1 billion ($44,500) per year.
Tinh said he was guaranteed a spot in Song Lam Nghe An's first team, but he wanted a new challenge because he was approaching the end of his professional career.
Can Tho who finished 11th out of 14 teams last season, have also signed national U23 midfielders Ngo Hoang Thinh and Le The Cuong, and have shown interest in Nguyen Minh Tung of Quang Ninh.
The new season will kick off in mid-February.
Quang signs with SHB Da Nang
Midfielder Lam Anh Quang has signed a three-year contract with V.League 1 team SHB Da Nang.
Twenty-five-year-old Quang was a key player for Nam Dinh club in the national premier league five years ago.
However, he only played in the premier league for one season as his club dropped down to the first and second division. He was voted best player at the National U21 Football Championship and named in the national U23 football team at the 26th Southeast Asian Games in 2011.
Da Nang, who ranked ninth in the V.League 1 this year, aim to make the top three next year.
