VietNamNet Bridge - Children born in Vietnam to Vietnamese mothers and foreign fathers will be granted Vietnamese citizenship and supplied birth certificates, assured a judicial official from the Ministry of Justice.

Tran That, head of the Department of Judicial Administration, under the Ministry of Justice, told Tuoi Tre that without exception all children born in Vietnam are to be granted birth certificates, without any proof of household registration or marriage certificates.

According to the country’s law on nationality, Vietnamese women and their foreign spouses have the right to decide if they want their child to adopt the mother’s or father’s nationality.

To be issued a birth certificate at the local judicial agency, parents need to have a certified notice of birth from the hospital or bring along witnesses.

In other news, the justice ministry Wednesday reported at a conference that it had found 6,888 documents nationwide that have been ratified either illegally or by persons without adequate authority - the highest number in the last 4 years.

The province with the highest number of such documents is Hung Yen (3.267 documents), followed by Son La (376 documents).
